Is Poker more skill than luck?

A skill game is one that is won by applying one’s mind or body, rather than by an outcome that is left to chance. Until recently, poker was labeled as a game of chance, when actually it is played with a lot of skill and is governed by set rules.

Though poker is not 100% skill-based as chess is, yet, the only trace of luck here is in the cards that one is dealt. If you’re seated close to the dealer, you might want to stay in the hand. Since this aspect of the game requires mental capacity and awareness, poker is a skill game.

· The odds of winning: Poker is a math-based game. Take for example, Texas Hold’em, where there are mathematical odds of your winning a hand, if you have your two basic hole cards. These probabilities, along with your cards that are shown to your opponents and the flop can prove just how you approach the game where betting is concerned. For these reasons, poker should be seen as a mental game or a game of skill.
